In mid-February, the notably buggy PC version of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was initially upgraded to a Verified status on the Steam Deck. This followed its first major patch that improved stability and introduced UI fixes along with auto-save functionalities.
Players were understandably skeptical as the game only ran at around 30 fps and required significant tweaks to function properly. Fast forward to the end of March, and it seems the game has now lost its Verified rating, now marked as ‘Playable’ by Valve, indicating that users will need to adjust their settings for adequate performance.
Despite this setback, the port developers at Nixxes are actively working on patches aimed at enhancing graphical performance, with the most recent update including terms like “improved performance in areas with trees.” Back in February, PC Gamer’s review rated it at a disappointing 57%, summing it up as a flawed port of a flawed sequel.
“What you have is about 10 hours of pretty fun action and impressive spectacle intercut with another 10 hours of limp character moments,” said the reviewer Robin Valentine. “From a project this obviously big and expensive, it all feels disappointingly undercooked … But not, it must be said, as undercooked as the port work.”
