Bungie Reveals New Extraction Shooter Marathon Set for September Release

Bungie unveils Marathon, a new extraction shooter launching in September with playtest signups opening soon.

After a series of teasers and some changes to its staff, Bungie has officially revealed its new shooter, Marathon. This title builds on Bungie’s historic lineage of first-person shooters from the 90s.

The game is set for launch on September 23, coinciding with Borderlands 4. Starting April 23, players in North America can register for a closed alpha test via the Marathon Discord. Players must be at least 18 years old to participate.

Key Features of Marathon:

  • A multiplayer experience focused on player versus player and player versus environment (PvPvE).
  • Teams of three will engage in combat, with matchmaking aligning players against equally sized teams.
  • Players will take on roles through various classes like Tank, Scout, and Informer.
  • The game promises to feature large, open maps and a narrative experience akin to Bungie’s previous lore-heavy titles.
  • Unique mechanics include weapon pickups that may only circulate a limited number of times before disappearing.

This title aims to combine hardcore FPS elements with a narrative-driven experience, making it a highly anticipated addition for fans of the genre. Bungie aims to maintain its reputation for high-quality gameplay and storytelling with this latest offering.
