William Roberts, known for his role as the grizzled witcher Vesemir in CD Projekt’s The Witcher series, has passed away at the age of 80.
Roberts was distinguished for his extensive career as a voice actor, having lent his talents to numerous video games. His portrayal of Vesemir is perhaps his most celebrated role, resonating with fans of the franchise.
Roberts’ death was first reported in February by The Guardian through an obituary penned by his former wife. Although he was born in Oregon, Roberts made a name for himself in the UK as an actor, director, voice artist, and writer. He was also known for his work with BBC Radio and for narrating audiobooks.
In addition to The Witcher series, his extensive credits include titles such as Crysis, Battlefield: Bad Company, and Star Wars: Battlefront. Despite the vast array of projects he worked on, his role as Vesemir—a mentor to Geralt—stayed with many fans.
His contributions were honored by CD Projekt, who stated: “This year, we lost William ‘Bill’ Roberts, who portrayed Vesemir in The Witcher games. Today, we bid him a fond farewell. You taught us, you gave advice, you cared for us. Kaer Morhen will never be the same without you. Godspeed, dear old friend. ❤️”
As fans of The Witcher series, his absence is deeply felt by the community.
