Over the last few years, rumors surrounding Valve’s Deckard have circulated, but recent reports appear to provide more substantial evidence of its imminent arrival. According to information sourced from SadlyItsBradley, a well-known figure for discussing VR technology, it appears Valve has been importing materials to create VR headset facial interfaces within the USA. The equipment is reportedly supplied by Teleray Group, the same company that produced components for the Valve Index and HP G2 Omnicept.
“Valve is bringing in equipment to manufacture VR headset facial interfaces in the USA. The equipment is being provided by Teleray Group who also manufactured the gaskets for the Valve Index and HP G2 Omnicept.”
This YouTuber has previously provided reliable VR leaks, including much of the information surrounding the Meta Quest Pro, leading to significant changes at Meta concerning their partnerships.
Evidence from a recent shipping manifest shows Valve has been acquiring foam face gaskets that fit around the eyes of VR headsets, which suggests they are well on their way to finalizing the design of the Deckard headset. This headset is anticipated to be standalone, unlike the Valve Index which requires a connected PC. Given the advancements in technology since the Index’s release nearly six years ago, including the higher-resolution Meta Quest 3, the need for a new VR device from Valve appears imminent.
With Valve already demonstrating success with their Steam Deck product, a standalone Deckard headset seems well-positioned to make a significant impact on the VR market, catering to the game’s shift towards standalone hardware. As the rumors gain traction, expectations for a forthcoming unveiling grow.
