Behind the Scenes of A Minecraft Movie: Jack Black's Unique Method Acting on a Private Server

Jack Black's commitment to embodying his role in A Minecraft Movie led to a fascinating experience on a private Minecraft server.

A Minecraft Movie has taken an intriguing approach to its production, particularly in its commitment to embodying the spirit of the game. Here, the film’s cast and crew engaged on a private Minecraft server, with Jack Black going to extraordinary lengths to prove his credentials as a ‘real Minecrafter’.

Jack Black’s Unique Approach

“I wanted everyone to know that I was a real Minecrafter.”

In his quest for authenticity, Black found himself creating a stunning mansion atop a mountain within the game. He integrated personal touches such as a basement art gallery.

Fun on the Set

The experience was described as both enjoyable and immersive, with producer Torfi Frans Ólafsson stating, “I kept the server up for a year. The cast and crew were building some incredible structures.”

According to Jared Hess, the director, Black’s dedication was highly visible: “Jack was super-weirdly method with the game. He was in his trailer harvesting lapis lazuli and always building stuff.”

Although screens of Black’s architectural wonder were not available, the resulting film has received significant acclaim, boasting the most successful domestic opening weekend for a video game adaptation.
