Rematch, the upcoming 5v5 soccer game from the developers of the martial arts title Sifu, is set to release in June with a closed beta happening this weekend.
Rematch Gameplay
French game studio Sloclap is already renowned for their work on titles like Absolver and Sifu, which have received positive acclaim. Personally, I have a soft spot for competitive sports games like Rocket League, which fuels my anticipation for Rematch.
Scheduled for release on June 19, Sloclap made the announcement during the recent Triple-I Initiative showcase. Details about the closed beta can be found on the Steam page.
Although I might not be the perfect audience for Rematch—thanks to my upbringing in Canada and the U.S. where I prefer Rocket League’s hockey mode— I’m still keen on this innovative idea.
Sloclap’s prior experience with intricate martial arts mechanics could translate well to managing the ball in this game, where each player controls one athlete, making strategy essential. The unique team-play dynamics require effective coordination, similar to actual soccer, thus enhancing the game experience.
If only I had deeper roots in regions where soccer (or what they call ‘football’) is a way of life, I’d thrive as a Rematch player. Nevertheless, I believe it’s a remarkable concept, expanding the boundaries of multiplayer sports games.
