CD Projekt Completes Merger with The Molasses Flood as Development Continues on Project Sirius
After four years of maintaining its identity, The Molasses Flood is now officially merged with CD Projekt. The development of Project Sirius, a new title in The Witcher universe, is ongoing despite challenges.
Less than four years after being acquired by CD Projekt, The Molasses Flood has ceased to operate as a separate legal entity. According to a statement on the studio’s website (via Eurogamer), as of April 1, The Molasses Flood has fully merged with CD Projekt Red.
“As a result of the merger TMF, in its former legal state (of a separate legal entity) ceased its operations, while CDPR Inc. assumed the rights and obligations of TMF.”
Translation: As a result of the merger, TMF as a separate legal entity is no longer operational, and all rights and obligations have transferred to CDPR Inc.
The merger will not impact the distribution of The Flame in The Flood or Drake Hollow, which will continue to be published by CD Projekt Group.
In a previous acquisition announcement in October 2021, CD Projekt stated that The Molasses Flood would retain its identity and not merge into other teams. However, challenges arose in developing Project Sirius, a spinoff set in The Witcher universe, leading to delays and restructuring. A recent presentation mentioned the goal of the merger is to enhance alignment on the project’s direction.
Despite co-founder Damian Isla’s positive outlook on the merger, noting it would integrate The Molasses Flood team more closely with CD Projekt, he confirmed on LinkedIn he would not continue with the studio following the transition, labeling it as “the end of an era”.
Isla remains hopeful about Project Sirius’ future, experiencing excitement for its prospects as CD Projekt assures that the game remains in pre-production.
