Nintendo has announced a noteworthy limitation regarding its newly revealed GameCube controller for the upcoming Switch 2. Gamers are expressing skepticism over this restriction.
The GameCube controller was showcased during the Switch 2 Direct event, highlighting the improved hardware and various games designed for the new console.
Originally launched in 2001, the GameCube has retained its status as a beloved and nostalgic console in Nintendo’s legacy. Previously, Nintendo released several successful titles during the GameCube era, and fans are eager to see if the Switch 2 will boast a similarly rich library.
However, as indicated in the fine print of the recent trailer, the GameCube controller will only work with specific GameCube Classics, not with other Switch 2 games. Available titles on launch day will include classics like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2, and F-Zero GX. Although new titles are expected to be introduced, initial fan reactions have shown disappointment, especially given that the controller’s button mapping could be compatible with many other games.
This has led to discussions within the gaming community regarding potential changes to the GameCube controller before its release on June 5, 2025.
