Framework Temporarily Halts US Laptop Sales Amid Trump's Tariff Changes

Framework announces a pause in US sales for some of its laptops due to the new 10% import tariff, stating the lowest-end models would be sold at a loss.

Trump’s tariffs are sowing discord among major hardware producers, prompting companies like Nintendo and Framework to announce order delays.

Framework tweeted, “Due to the new tariffs that came into effect on April 5th, we’re temporarily pausing US sales on a few base Framework Laptop 13 systems (Ultra 5 125H and Ryzen 5 7640U).” They also noted, “We priced our laptops when tariffs on imports from Taiwan were 0%. At a 10% tariff, we would have to sell the lowest-end SKUs at a loss.”

Currently, higher-end models like the Intel Ultra 7 155H and 165H remain available for $1,109 and $1,509, respectively. However, the cheapest way to acquire a new Intel model now requires an additional expense of almost $400. Framework’s transparency indicates that many other manufacturers might also be calculating similar tariff-induced adjustments, with more explanations likely to follow soon.
