Dungeons & Dragons Creative Director Retires After 28 Years

After an illustrious career spanning nearly three decades, Chris Perkins announces his retirement from Wizards of the Coast.

Chris Perkins, the creative director of Dungeons and Dragons, has officially concluded his lengthy career at Wizards of the Coast after 28 years. Having been part of the company for more than half of the game’s existence, this iconic game developer is now retiring and plans to enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons as a fan.

When discussing modern Dungeons and Dragons, Chris Perkins is often one of the first names mentioned. Alongside lead rules designer Jeremy Crawford, Perkins frequently participated in videos, panels, and other media as one of the key public figures explaining the intricacies of Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition and its new content.

Perkins announced his retirement on April 4, stating that it was a perfect way to end his career at the peak of his contributions, leaving many fans sad but grateful for his legacy. They also look forward to enjoying the game in a new capacity.

He began as the editor of Dungeon magazine and rose to become the game design architect and later the creative director. Over his career, Perkins not only contributed to the development of numerous key adventures but also engaged in many actual play streams, including a notable stint as the dungeon master for Acquisitions Incorporated and Dice, Camera, Action!.

While the gaming community expresses their collective disappointment at Perkins’s departure, they appreciate his contributions to Dungeons and Dragons and wish him the best in this new chapter as a fan.
