Rumored Release Timeline for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake Revealed

A new report suggests that the remade version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is set for April 2025, potentially deviating from a long-standing release tradition.

Summary

  • The remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is anticipated to launch in April 2025.
  • Industry insider Jeff Grubb states that the launch might be a sudden drop without prior announcement.
  • This version is thought to be a hybrid between a full remake and a remaster.

The highly anticipated remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is projected to release in April 2025, according to insights from a credible industry insider. This report suggests that the remake might break from the series’ traditional release protocols.

The earliest signs of a revived version of Oblivion surfaced online in September 2023 amid a document leak related to ZeniMax Management, which detailed the title as a remaster. In a similar vein, another earlier but less credible source hinted at a remake in development by Virtuos, a notable third-party support studio.

According to Jeff Grubb, during a Giant Bomb livestream, he confirmed that the Oblivion remake is likely to see a release in April 2025, emphasizing an unprecedented shadow drop approach which would circumvent the classic marketing framework used by the franchise since its inception in 1993.

The new rendition of Oblivion is expected to amalgamate elements of a remake and a remaster, utilizing Unreal Engine 5 for rendering while possibly maintaining the original Gamebryo engine for core mechanics. Gameplay alterations regarding blocking, stealth, and stamina mechanics are also rumored. The launch is anticipated as a simultaneous release for PC and Xbox Series X/S, with potential availability on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 in the future.
