Skyesports Souvenir 2025 Event Canceled Amid Communication Issues
The $250,000 LAN was originally scheduled for early 2025.
Skyesports has recently announced the cancellation of the Skyesports Souvenir 2025, citing a lack of communication from Valve as the main reason.
The tournament organizer stated that they “applied for an exception to reschedule Skyesports Souvenir 2025 and introduce wildcard invites,” but unfortunately did not receive a response regarding the request.
Valve recently reached out to tournament organizers to reiterate components of the “Tournament Operating Requirements” which will be enforced starting 2025. The message stressed that “any changes to 2025 Additional Information requires an exception,” which indicates that Skyesports was in need of an exception to adjust their event dates and invitation procedures.
Skyesports expressed that the decision was made due to “concerns raised by teams about the tournament potentially becoming unranked,” resulting in their inability to proceed with organizing the event. The full statement reads:
“We had applied for an exception to reschedule the Skyesports Souvenir 2025 and introduce wildcard invites. However, despite our efforts, we have not received a response from Valve. Coupled with the current situation surrounding other events and concerns raised by teams about the tournament potentially becoming unranked, we are left with no choice but to cancel the Skyesports Souvenir 2025. We sincerely apologize to our fans, players, and partners for this disappointing turn of events.”
This is not the first instance where Skyesports has faced challenges in hosting LAN events. The Skyesports Masters 2024 was previously transitioned from a LAN event to an online format because of logistical issues tied to the Indian General Election, which made it substantially difficult to secure the required approvals for hosting a large-scale event.
