Valve's Ricochet Sets New Steam Concurrent Record Thanks to Fan Effort

Fans unite to boost player count for the often-overlooked Valve game Ricochet, celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Valve’s Ricochet Sets New Steam Concurrent Record Thanks to Fan Effort

Fans of Ricochet, a 25-year-old game by Valve, rallied to set a new concurrent player record, honoring the game’s legacy. Initially, Ricochet was created as a mod for Half-Life, but has transformed over the years into a cult favorite, primarily known for its amusing accompanying jokes regarding its desirability over a potential Half-Life 3.

This movement was organized by the community site LambdaGeneration, leading to a surge in active players this past April Fool’s Day. As stated by LambdaGeneration, “The Ricochet SteamDB all-time peak player count stands at a measly 95 players. This is a travesty. We all know Ricochet is the best Valve game ever made. Justice must be done.”

As a result, peak players exceeded 300 during the event. If you’re interested in joining such efforts in the future, more information can be found on LambdaGeneration.

Additionally, fan Andy Chalk joined the festivities and commented humorously on the crowded gameplay experience. It was noted that similar events have previously been organized to celebrate other Valve titles, including an online mass-playthrough of Half-Life 2 in 2021.

Despite not achieving the mainstream success of titles like Team Fortress or Counter-Strike, Valve describes Ricochet as “a futuristic action game that challenges your agility as well as your aim.”

For further information, the game is available for purchase on Steam.
