New Partnership Between Ubisoft and Tencent Set to Manage Major Franchises
Ubisoft and Tencent are forming a subsidiary aimed at consolidating and expanding key gaming franchises, including Assassin's Creed and Far Cry.
Ubisoft and Tencent are joining forces to create a new subsidiary focused on developing ecosystems around some of the biggest game franchises like Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six.
According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, the collaboration aims to transform the company’s operational structure to be more agile and ambitious. “As we accelerate the company’s transformation, this is a foundational step in changing Ubisoft’s operating model.”
The venture will allow Tencent to have a minority share, approximately 25%, with an investment of €1.16 billion (~$1.25 billion). This structure gives Tencent a role without disrupting the Guillemot family’s control of Ubisoft.
Martin Lau, President of Tencent, expressed enthusiasm for the potential of these franchises, emphasizing their importance in creating long-term, engaging experiences for players.
The collaboration is expected to be finalized by the end of 2025, pending regulatory approval. As this partnership unfolds, further details about the integration of development teams and any potential workforce changes will be released in the upcoming months.
