Good news for fans of GTA: a mod developer has managed to recreate an interactive version of the GTA 6 map using GTA 5. However, the situation took a turn for the worse as Take-Two swiftly moved to eliminate any content related to this project, deploying a legal team to erase videos linked to the mod from online platforms. Consequently, even the download option for this mod has been taken down.
“I am surprised they didn’t bother emailing me. I would have taken it down if asked.”
— Dark Space, mod creator
Dark Space explained, “I basically created a playable map using leaks and trailer footage of GTA 6,” referencing a related community project aiming to model the environment of the awaited game based on available media. Unfortunately, Dark Space anticipated a backlash from Take-Two, but was still taken aback by the sudden action.
Reflecting on the situation, he observed, “My guess is that the map was probably too accurate,” suggesting that Take-Two might see this fan-made version as a threat, fearing it could diminish the surprise of GTA 6 upon release.
“They feel that having a playable version of the map might spoil surprises for the new game.”
It’s disheartening but somewhat expected for a project heavily driven by fan enthusiasm, which also risked overshadowing the promotional plans for GTA 6. Dark Space expressed frustration over the situation, noting that this takedown affected his earnings from the project, culminating in an overall negative experience.
