Assassin's Creed Shadows Breaks Player Records Within Hours of Release

Ubisoft's latest installment has achieved unprecedented player numbers shortly after its launch.

Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows has reportedly surpassed 1,000,000 players within 24 hours of its release. Players are expressing excitement on social platforms, as highlighted by Ubisoft’s own tweets:

鈥淚t’s not even 4PM here in Canada and Assassin’s Creed Shadows has already passed 1 million players! Thank YOU from the bottom of our hearts for joining this adventure in Feudal Japan. We are beyond excited to start this journey with you! 馃挐 (March 20, 2025)

While Ubisoft refers to players rather than sales, it’s believed that a significant portion may have accessed the game through Ubisoft+, rather than outright purchases. Given that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available on Steam for the first time at launch, it鈥檚 poised to break more records quickly. Currently, the game has hit a peak concurrent player count of 41,412 on Steam, placing it as the third highest after Assassin’s Creed Origins and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Morgan Park, a reviewer for PCGamer, awarded Shadows 80%, praising its engaging stealth mechanics and solid combat, although the storyline received some criticism.

As excitement builds, the player base is sure to grow as more gamers discover this latest iteration of the beloved franchise.
