Wizards of the Coast Gaming Executive Claims Baldur's Gate 3 Set a New Standard for D&D Games
Wizards of the Coast emphasizes the importance of diversity in D&D game offerings, following the success of Baldur's Gate 3.
Wizards of the Coast’s senior VP, Dan Ayoub, discussed the revolutionary impact of Baldur’s Gate 3 on the company’s vision for future Dungeons & Dragons video games.
“It certainly raised the bar in a really, really big way,” Ayoub stated, underscoring how this game has reshaped their perspectives on large-scale D&D adaptations.
He emphasized the desire for diverse entry points into the D&D universe, suggesting that future titles need not mimic the complexity of Baldur’s Gate 3 to be successful.
Ayoub remarked, “I think we want to have different entry points for people, and hopefully generally the expectations for a smaller indie title are not the same as for a BG3.”
He implied that while Baldur’s Gate 3 set high expectations, Wizards aims to develop a range of experiences around the D&D framework that caters to various audiences.
Currently, multiple projects are underway, with D&D adaptations planned both in-house and through partnerships, although some previously announced titles faced cancellation in 2023.
“Whatever we do, we want to be diligent: we want to make sure whatever we’re doing, we’re executing to the best possible quality,” Ayoub concluded, reiterating the commitment to high standards in any forthcoming D&D game releases.
