The Transformative Design of Sugar 1 Handheld Gaming Device

The Sugar 1 handheld gaming device features a unique shape-shifting design with dual screens and rotating controllers.

Overview

As a newly revitalized category, Android and Windows handhelds are experiencing a transformation. The newest entry into this market is the Sugar 1, designed by OneXSugar, which will stand out in both form and functionality with its unique design.

What Makes Sugar 1 Unique?

The Sugar 1 handheld device features two screens and rotating controllers, allowing for versatile gameplay. Unveiled at GDC 2025, it raises questions like, Can a handheld look like a transforming robot?

The device allows users to play with one or both screens. It offers different orientations by placing either the larger 6.01-inch or smaller 3.92-inch screen on top, adding a playful twist to traditional handheld gaming.

Inside the Device

Equipped with the Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, it includes an 8-core Kryo CPU and an Adreno A32 GPU, both aimed at enhancing gaming performance significantly. This additional power and dual-screen feature contribute to a bulkier design, which is anticipated to provide a comfortable grip during extended gaming sessions.

Yet to Come

Pricing and release dates are still pending. The Sugar 1 has an IndieGoGo page for potential backers, though details are sparse.

As a new sub-brand of One-Netbook, OneXSugar aims to focus on the Android gaming experience while the OneXPlayer remains dedicated to Windows-based hardware. The community has mixed opinions on One-Netbook’s previous performances, but the OneXFly F1 Pro garnered praise last year.

In conclusion, the Sugar 1 stands as an innovative element in the handheld gaming sector, with its experimental design and potential for enjoyable play.
