Nvidia Unveils Vera: A CPU with Unique Custom Cores for Premium PCs

Nvidia introduces its latest CPU, Vera, featuring distinctive custom cores designed to enhance performance for upcoming premium PCs.

When one thinks of the future of PCs, Nvidia’s latest innovation, known as the Vera CPU, is poised to lead the way. This new processor features custom CPU cores designed to enhance computing capabilities substantially while consuming only 50 W of energy.

In a statement during the Nvidia GTC March 2025 Keynote, CEO Jensen Huang remarked,

“The CPU is new, it’s twice the performance of Grace [Nvidia’s current CPU design for AI servers]—more memory, more bandwidth, and yet it’s just a little tiny 50 W CPU.”

The Vera CPU is expected to be a part of Nvidia’s Vera Rubin AI compute platform. With 88 CPU cores, it aims to double the performance of the previous Grace CPU, which only had 72 cores. This leap in performance reveals Nvidia’s commitment to pushing boundaries in CPU design.

The Vera is hailed not only as an advancement in AI technology but also promises a more competitive edge for Nvidia in the evolving landscape of personal computing. Custom cores like Olympus, designed by Nvidia itself, mark a significant shift from previous designs which relied on standard Arm CPU cores.

What’s Next?

As Nvidia forges ahead with innovations like the Vera CPU, the question remains whether this design will be implemented in future PCs, stirring excitement in both the hardware community and amongst enthusiasts eager for next-gen technology.
