Cities: Skylines 2 marks its 10th anniversary, a noteworthy achievement for the beloved city-building game. To celebrate, it rolls out several updates including important bug fixes, new structures, and modifications to how homelessness is managed in the game.
Previously, game characters would often become homeless shortly after they turned into adults due to housing shortages. Now, they will remain at home until they secure employment, possibly becoming commuters if they fail to find housing. The game now visually displays homelessness in its Info View, treating homeless households similarly to other metrics within the simulator.
Additionally, a new patch has been introduced that brings new gameplay modes, new parks, and a variety of additional bug fixes that address various concerns, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
Players who have bought the Ultimate Edition will also gain access to six new DLC packs, featuring fresh radio stations and community-created content. The DLCs include new architectural styles and multiple thematic musical enhancements that reflect the game’s diverse setting.
Opinions on the sequel’s quality vary, with current reviews averaging a ‘Mixed’ rating on Steam. However, the added depth to homelessness dynamics and the improvements in gameplay suggest an ongoing evolution in gameplay complexity. For those interested, Cities: Skylines 2 will offer a promotional free access window starting March 20th, with a sale on Steam running concurrently.
