Asus Modifies Q-Release PCIe Slot Design Due to GPU Concerns

Asus has made a discreet alteration to its Q-Release PCIe slot design, amidst worries over GPU pin damage.

Asus is reportedly addressing concerns regarding the potential damage its Q-Release PCIe slot could cause to GPUs. Originally, the design of the Q-Release Slim PCI slot raised alarms when users claimed that the connector could scrape GPU pins with repeated use. Recently, photos of the Asus ROG Apex X870E motherboard revealed a redesigned slot mechanism without the previously problematic metal frame, thought to contribute to wear.

In a statement, Asus distanced itself from the initial concerns, asserting that their internal evaluations found no functional damage to either the motherboard or graphics cards after extensive testing. Yet, they acknowledged that any PCIe card would show signs of wear after numerous insertions and removals.

Despite these findings, Asus China’s customer support has offered motherboard replacements to affected users, indicating they are revising their designs to prevent similar complaints in the future.

For those considering an Asus motherboard, this design tweak might be something to keep an eye on.
