GTA Vice City's Voice Actor Shares Struggles with Iconic Role

Danny Dyer, the voice of Kent Paul in Grand Theft Auto Vice City, reveals his challenges while voicing a critical character in the game.

Danny Dyer may not be a household name in the US but is quite popular in the UK. Known for portraying various roles including an eight-year tenure on the soap opera EastEnders, Dyer provided the voice for Kent Paul, a rock band manager in both Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and San Andreas.

In a recent interview, Dyer humorously reflected on his experience voicing Kent Paul, stating:

“This is the highlight of my career, by the way. Fucking amazing job. Amazing. And I love this game.”
“C’est le point culminant de ma carrière. Un travail incroyable. Et j’adore ce jeu.”

Dyer’s character first appears early in Vice City and returns in San Andreas, navigating various predicaments throughout the series. He discussed the challenge he faced during gameplay, mentioning:

“The hardest thing about it was, is that when you got to my mission, is that I couldn’t get [past] my own mission, and my own voice was driving me f***ing insane.”
“La partie la plus difficile, c’est que lorsque vous arriviez à ma mission, je ne pouvais pas past ma propre mission, et ma propre voix me rendait complètement fou."

Considering he plays an essential role throughout, many fans are curious about what specific mission he referenced, hoping it wasn’t an instance where he became stuck after only a short time.

Dyer jokingly concluded by sharing his salary for the role, expressing his disbelief at how much revenue the game generated after its release:

“Fucking amazing piece of work. I only got 15 grand for it, which I thought was a lot of money. Then that game went on to make billions and still is.”
“Un travail incroyable. Je n’ai eu que 15 000 livres pour ça, ce que je pensais être une grosse somme. Puis, ce jeu a généré des milliards et continue de le faire."
