Rod Fergusson, the head of Diablo 4, has indicated that Blizzard may be shifting away from the existing Battle Pass model, which has been met with mixed reactions from players.
Currently, the Battle Pass system involves each Season offering around 90 tiers of items for players to unlock, divided into free and premium rewards. Players do not need to spend money to engage fully with the season’s content, which has become standard in modern live-service games. However, many gamers are feeling fatigued with this formula and are looking for fresh approaches.
“The Battle Pass is probably an antiquated system now, and I think we can introduce more engaging mechanics for players. Keep an eye on our updates!”
This statement sets the stage for possible innovations in how Diablo 4 structures its rewards and seasonal content moving forward.
