AMD Gains Graphics Market Share But Faces Industry Challenges Ahead

AMD has regained a portion of the graphics market share from Nvidia, but looming tariffs may disrupt the industry in 2025.

AMD has recently recaptured 7% of the graphics card market share from Nvidia, increasing its presence in the industry, but the future remains uncertain due to potential tariffs affecting prices. According to the latest statistics from market research firm JPR, AMD’s share rose from 10% in Q3 2024 to 17% in Q4. However, Nvidia continues to dominate the market.

Intel’s position has seen minimal change, gaining only 1.2% share, while analysts anticipate difficulties ahead with tariffs that could create pricing pressures and lower overall market demand.

“Market demand for AIBs was greater than supply, which was constrained by TSMC’s production and stressed by the demand for AI compute GPUs.”

Market conditions are expected to make planning difficult in the coming quarters, with a warning that the upcoming Q2 might experience a significant downturn unless existing backlog can cushion the decline. These shifts underline a potential temporary setback for Nvidia rather than a sustainable resurgence for AMD. As the launch of the RX 9070 series progresses, its real impact on the competitive landscape remains to be seen.
