The launch of the AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards has encountered issues, as some customers around the world have reportedly experienced their pre-orders being canceled shortly after the release. AMD users have taken to social media to express their frustrations, and the company has committed to collaborating with retailers and manufacturing partners to meet demand and maintain prices at MSRP.
In late February, AMD revealed the price and release date of the Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT GPUs. Both graphics cards utilize AMD’s next-generation RDNA4 graphics technology, aiming to reduce the gap with Nvidia regarding upscaling and ray tracing capabilities, areas where Nvidia currently leads. Each card features 16 GB of GDDR6 video memory and several power connection choices. Both the AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT are priced at $549 and $599 respectively, prior to accounting for tariffs or fees.
Users Report Frustration Over Canceled Pre-Orders
Affected users reported their concerns regarding canceled pre-orders on social media. Some spread their woes on platforms like Reddit, stating that UK retailer eBuyer canceled a pre-order for the RX 9070 XT and raised the card’s price by £150 above the launch MSRP. Others shared more fortunate experiences, as they were able to purchase the Radeon RX 9070 XT from Amazon and stores such as Micro Center, although often at higher prices for additional features.
In response to complaints, Frank Azor from AMD’s Consumer and Gaming Marketing division took to social media after the launch of the Radeon RX 9000 series. He promised that the MSRPs of $549 and $599 are to be supported by the tech giant, noting that final costs may include regional tariffs and taxes. He added that AIB partner cards might feature enhancements, which can also increase pricing, and assured that availability would improve in the near future.
At the time of writing, the RX 9070 XT is out of stock on Newegg in the US, and both AMD and Nvidia have promised to boost stock for PC gamers in the coming weeks.
