The US Department of Justice has announced charges against 12 alleged Chinese hackers linked to cyber-attacks targeting US organizations dating back to 2013. This group reportedly operated on behalf of China’s Public and State Security Ministries.
“Victims include US-based critics and dissidents of the PRC, a large religious organization in the United States, the foreign ministries of multiple governments in Asia, and US federal and state government agencies.” — DOJ
The hackers are allegedly connected to an organization called Anxun Information Technology Co. Ltd. (also known as i-Soon), with two of them identified as officers of China’s Ministry of Public Security.
Among those accused, Yin ‘Coldface’ Kecheng and Zhou ‘YKCAI’ Shuai face allegations of running long-term, profit-driven cyber operations.
The DOJ has issued a $10 million bounty for information that can lead to their capture.
