Rumors About Next-gen Snapdragon X2 Chip Include 18 Cores
The Snapdragon X2 chip is rumored to boost performance with new CPU architecture, as Qualcomm aims to enhance gaming on Arm-based PCs.
When Qualcomm first introduced the Snapdragon X Arm-based chip, they made substantial claims about its gaming capabilities, boasting about having tested over 1,200 games. However, the gaming experience on Arm has yet to meet expectations. Now, rumors suggest a follow-up chip, the Snapdragon X2, which may feature up to 18 CPU cores, surpassing the current model that caps at 12.
The rumored Oryon V3 cores signify the third series of Qualcomm’s CPU architecture, akin to AMD’s Zen designs. This could signify a shift towards desktop applications for Qualcomm’s processors, which have mostly been reserved for mobile devices until now. The Snapdragon X2’s enhanced architecture is expected to leverage System in Package (SiP) technology, integrating RAM and storage within the CPU package.
Despite these innovations, the focus remains on improving software support and graphics performance, as many games still encounter performance issues, including crashes and frame rate drops. Consequently, convincing developers to tailor their games for this new architecture or implementing better emulation is crucial for advancing gaming performance on Snapdragon systems.
