If you notice a GPU priced at MSRP in the upcoming days, it might be wise to grab it quickly!
The CEO of Best Buy has stated that price increases for American consumers are quite probable due to recently imposed tariffs. Meanwhile, Target’s CEO mentioned that these tariffs will lead to higher prices. For those in the market for new GPUs like Nvidia’s RTX 5070 or AMD’s RX 9070, it would be advisable to purchase them as they launch, as prices may rise once these tariffs impact additional shipments.
CNN reports that Barry explained how major suppliers in the industry will likely pass on tariff costs to consumers. “We expect our vendors across our entire assortment will pass along some level of tariff costs to retailers, making price increases for American consumers highly likely,” she remarked during an investor earnings call.
In contrast, Target’s CEO Brian Cornell was specifically discussing the effects of tariffs on imported goods, which doesn’t directly relate to electronic components since Target only sells completed PCs and laptops.
As of last night, tariffs of 25% on imports from Mexico and Canada, alongside an additional 10% tariff on goods from China, have taken effect. Consequently, while it’s hard to predict the real impact of these tariffs on prices, it seems likely that the general trend will point upwards.
“We’ve never seen this kind of breadth of tariffs; hence, it is not just a question for Best Buy, but for the industry as a whole,” Barry asserted.
What this means for GPU prices is still uncertain. Graphics card prices have been erratic recently, which complicates the prediction of price changes directly tied to tariffs. Given that the first batch of the RTX 5070 and RX 9070 cards will arrive in the U.S. before these tariffs take effect, it may be wise to act quickly.
In essence, the current trends are not encouraging, and potential customers looking for GPUs within the $500 to $600 range might want to consider buying quickly if they find these cards close to MSRP, as such pricing could become a rarity in the near future.
