The much-loved Chernobyl-inspired level has been revamped with new visuals for Counter-Strike 2.
The Counter-Strike 2 remake of Cache is now available on the Steam workshop, as announced by one of the map’s original designers, Shawn “FMPONE” Snelling. The update provides a complete visual overhaul of the version released in late 2019 by FMPONE and the map’s original creator, Savatore “Volcano” Garozzo.
The new release features only a few immediately apparent gameplay changes, like the removal of the ladder and scaffolding in Z added in the 2019 version, while enabling self-boosting on the boxes at the back of Checkers. FMPONE mentioned, “Cache is fair and balanced, so changes come with more risk than reward for the most part.”
There has been overwhelming community support for Cache’s return to competitive play, especially after FMPONE teased the remake in February 2024. However, the future of Cache in competitive play remains uncertain, as Valve’s acquisition of Anubis in 2022 changed their approach to map selection.
FMPONE commented, “We will see how the community reaction informs those decisions.”
