New Update for CPU-Z Alerts Users to Missing GPU ROPs

A recent enhancement to the CPU-Z tool provides warnings for users whose GPUs may have an incorrect number of Raster Operation Pipelines (ROPs).

A feature I didn’t realize I needed until now.

Introduction to ROPs

With the ongoing issues regarding the availability and pricing of the RTX 50 series, Nvidia faces scrutiny over the recent launch. A concern emerged around the missing ROPs in certain graphics card models, which could affect their performance.

For users with an RTX 50 series GPU, CPU-Z has introduced a feature that alerts users if their graphics card lacks the correct number of Raster Operation Pipelines, accompanied by a visual warning in eye-catching purple text.

“Just bought a brand new GeForce RTX 5070, 5080 or 5090? The CPU-Z Validator can tell you immediately if your brand new GPU is flawed or not!”
(Twitter post from February 28, 2025)

The recent reports highlighted missing ROPs in some GPUs, including Nvidia RTX 5090 and others, leading to notable decreases in performance. Nvidia claims this issue affects less than 0.5% of their cards. However, given the stakes, verifying your GPU’s performance remains prudent.

Usage of CPU-Z

After installing CPU-Z, it’s essential to validate your hardware specifications by clicking the Validate button within the interface. Upon confirmation, users can access a detailed page outlining their system specifications, including shader units, texture units, and the number of ROPs reported by their GPU. If discrepancies arise, CPU-Z will clearly indicate how many are present versus how many should be.

Conclusion

This proactive update from CPU-Z is commendable as it addresses emerging concerns surrounding the new graphics cards. As an essential tool for system checks, I’d recommend it for anyone who values precise hardware monitoring.
