Why Drop's New LOTR Keyboard Earns My Thumbs Up

Drop's latest keyboard, featuring a Lord of the Rings theme with a sword design on the Enter key, stands out in both style and functionality.

As a simple man, I find joy in the latest Drop Lord of the Rings-themed keyboard, which showcases a sword design on the Enter key. It’s the little details that please me, or in this case, the fun, pointy objects.

While not the inaugural LOTR-themed keyboard by Drop, it certainly holds a reserved place among enthusiasts. The previous model was the Drop Black Speech Keyboard, launched in 2023. Meanwhile, the Drop + The Lord of the Rings Gondor CSTM80 keyboard appears less ostentatious, making it suitable for professional use without broadcasting my fandom to colleagues.

The understated monochrome palette is quite appealing, although some elements, like the horn of Gondor on the left side, add a bit more flair. While I anticipate some readers might argue it’s Gondor’s horn, I’ll leave that to the experts; I enjoyed some of the films, even if I dozed off while perusing the books.

The drawback? Price. At $199, it’s a significant purchase, but its features justify the expense. It offers removable gaskets, PBT keycaps, Gateron KS-3 Milky Yellow Pro switches, and hot-swappable switch sockets—essential tools for any serious gamer’s arsenal.

Furthermore, it provides customizable per-key RGB lighting, granting users the choice of a green theme for a nod to the elves or a red theme inspired by Sauron when feeling adventurous.

“We are truth-speakers, we men of Gondor. We boast seldom, and then perform, or die in the attempt.”
(Quote from Lord of the Rings)

In conclusion, those who identify with Gondor can proudly embrace their love while typing away on this stylish keyboard.
