When Runescape first launched, its quest Prince Ali Rescue debuted on February 28, 2001. This quest initiated the Desert storyline, which has now been running for nearly a quarter-century without a conclusion… until now.

During the Runefest, it was announced that the story will finally be wrapped up with the upcoming Return to the Desert Trilogy, set to release in April and July of this year.

“You’ve raided tombs, discovered ancient artifacts, and engaged in smuggling. You even restored the spirit of a long-dead pharaoh queen,” said Mod Shrike at the event. “All the while, you’ve crisscrossed the desert and learned more about the desert pantheon, particularly Amascut, the goddess of destruction.”

The trilogy, which commenced in January with Beneath Scabaras’ Sands, will pick up with Pharaoh’s Folly in April, leading to a conclusion with Eclipse of the Heart in July. Players can expect to revisit familiar locations, along with some character upgrades, as this narrative arc wraps up.

In the words of Mod Zura, “You have made it clear that there is a desire to finish older storylines. With the Return to the Desert Trilogy, we are excited to conclude this 24-year-old adventure.”
