The best part of awards shows is the chance for heated debates over the results. The BAFTAs are taking this initiative to the next level by asking the public What is the most influential video game of all time? BAFTA, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, has extended its inquiry into video games and is seeking diverse opinions.
“Most influential game can mean different things to different people,” the inquiry states. “Perhaps it’s a game that birthed a genre, or one that changed storytelling and interactivity standards.”
In other words, if you can justify your choice, it could be any game. This makes the exercise enjoyable, and the discussions on social media are expected to be lively.
I personally consider Pong to be a significant choice, as it helped transition gaming into mainstream culture. Conversely, Neil Newbon may shy away from naming a single game, sparking lively discussions on social media.
Don’t miss out on the BAFTA award nominations revealed on March 4, leading up to the ceremony on April 11.
