Dungeonborne, which had initially positioned itself as a competitor to Dark and Darker, is officially closing its doors. The developer, Mithril Interactive, declared that new account registrations and in-game purchases will be discontinued starting February 28, leading to the game’s shutdown on May 28.
Initially, Dungeonborne had advantages by briefly being available on Steam, while Dark and Darker was facing legal challenges that kept it off the platform. Although Dungeonborne achieved a remarkable peak of over 39,000 concurrent players at launch, interest dwindled rapidly, with a recent peak of only 22 players.
Lack of developer support, particularly the suspension of updates after outlining a season roadmap, contributed to its downfall. Meanwhile, Dark and Darker has since re-emerged on Steam and maintained a robust player base, demonstrating the competitive nature of the gaming landscape.
