Recently retired PlayStation executive, Shuhei Yoshida, has declared that Blue Prince, a forthcoming indie title, might be among the nominees for Game of the Year 2025. This adventure game, created by Dogubomb, will be released on April 10, 2025, for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms.
In January 2025, PlayStation bid farewell to Yoshida after an impactful 31-year tenure with the company. Beyond his role as the head of the division now called PlayStation Studios, he passionately supported indie games right up until his retirement. His appreciation for independent developers became increasingly visible as he helped broaden the PlayStation Hero Project into various new regions. Despite no longer being directly involved in Sony’s initiatives, Yoshida continues to spotlight promising indie titles, including Blue Prince.
In a tweet, Yoshida mentioned, “Blue Prince is set to be one of GOTY 2025 candidates,” spotlighting its unique exploration mechanics through a shifting manor. Players must traverse rooms that change daily, adding an unpredictable element to the gameplay. Upon its release, Blue Prince will also feature prominently on services like Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus.
As Yoshida forges a new path post-PlayStation, his collaboration with indie developers continues, showcasing his enduring influence in the gaming industry.
