Twitch recently announced significant changes to its enforcement approach, particularly concerning its suspension policy. These modifications aim to be more lenient, allowing low-severity infractions to vanish after 90 days.
The adjustments were made to mitigate the impact on streamers who might accidentally make minor mistakes, losing their communities and livelihoods unnecessarily. Previously, minor offenses would lead to permanent strikes on an account, which disproportionately affected long-term content creators. In Twitch’s review, even minor offenses could culminate in indefinite suspensions due to repeated infractions.
Now, this new system categorizes violations, where most low-severity offenses will expire within 90 days, while more serious issues may linger for one or two years. For repeat offenders, Twitch warns that penalties will escalate if violations occur within an existing suspension period. Indefinite suspensions remain in effect for severe offenses.
Additionally, Twitch plans to enhance transparency in violations. Streamers will receive specific examples of chat messages or stream snippets that led to their punishment, aiding them in understanding infractions better.
Overall, this direction marks a notable shift towards supporting streamers in navigating Twitch’s guidelines, especially for long-time users who may have made past mistakes.
“The changes reflect our commitment to recognizing members of the community who evolve and learn from their experiences,” Twitch states in its announcement.
