Dune: Awakening's Sandworms Will Operate Independently: 'You Can’t Summon Them When You Want'

Funcom shares insights about the sandworms in the upcoming game Dune: Awakening, emphasizing their autonomy and unpredictability.

Funcom recently announced that Dune: Awakening will release on May 20, sharing that sandworms have unique behaviors governed by their own rules without your control. In their community FAQ, Funcom responded to a player query concerning the potential of using sandworms against others:

“Keep in mind that sandworms are their own entities in the game, with their own behaviors, patrolling routes, and routines. They will control the sands.”

Thus, players will be unable to summon sandworms at will.

As per the lore, before the main Dune saga events, sandworms were traditionally respected only by the Fremen. Dune: Awakening occurs in an alternate universe where the Fremen have disappeared, and the legendary Paul Atreides never existed.

You can find Dune: Awakening on Steam. Ahead of the launch, a character creator and benchmark tool are available for download to test your setup.
