Enhancing Frame Rates in Avowed: A Quick Solution with Trade-Offs

Discover a simple method to boost your frame rates in Avowed, which doubles the performance, yet affects the game's visual quality.

I spent a few hours with Obsidian’s RPG/fish-person-friend simulator Avowed and I’m enjoying it. However, I noticed occasional frame rate dips.

A simple tweak lets you enable FSR 3 frame generation, effectively doubling my frame rate, but it has a notable downside.

A Reddit user, Hawkiinz, outlined an easy way to enable FSR 3 with a simple engine.ini edit. Just navigate to the file in your Windows user folder, modify it, and save. The gain? Increased frame rates up to 150-170 fps, even in intense scenarios.

The trade-off? Waterfalls can look terrible at certain distances, with noticeable checkerboarding effects. Regular water still looks fine, but it detracts from the overall aesthetic.

This might explain why FSR 3 is off by default. Still, the performance boost might be worth the visual compromise.

To play around with the sharpness filter, it’s initially set to off, but I found that raising it to 20% enhances textures nicely without overdoing it.

Lastly, I suggest adding FSR 3.1 to Avowed. It handles ghosting and noise more effectively than its predecessor, which could fix some FSR-related issues in this stunning game.
