Celebrating 25 Years of The Sims: Upcoming Events and Expectations

The Sims series is gearing up for its 25th anniversary, with a special episode unveiling exciting announcements involving new content and features.

The Sims series is turning 25 in February, but Maxis is kicking off the celebration early with a ‘Behind The Sims’ episode on January 14. This video will premiere on YouTube at 9 AM Pacific / 5 PM GMT.

Maxis previously informed players in September to expect a January event to launch the anniversary festivities, stating that there鈥檚 a lot to look forward to in the following months.

During a ‘Behind The Sims’ episode, viewers typically receive updates regarding new downloadable content (DLC) for The Sims 4, insights from The Sims Mobile, and news on the upcoming Project Rene, which will not be The Sims 5. Here are some developments fans hope to hear about during the anniversary celebration:

  • A Sims movie produced by Margot Robbie’s studio.
  • New creator kits designed in collaboration with Sims content creators.
  • Testing new game features via The Sims Labs.
  • Details on Project Rene, the planned multiplayer gameplay experience.

The promotional graphics for the event feature nostalgic pixel art, reminiscent of the 2000s, but the only written message teases: “A very special Behind The Sims is coming! 馃帀 馃巵”

Fans remain hopeful that Maxis has something exciting planned for this significant anniversary, especially after the relatively simple 20th-anniversary event which involved an in-game hot tub that fell flat for many fans. Many wonder whether this milestone will see more elaborate plans, following the anticipation built since last September about the upcoming episode.

The past two ‘Behind The Sims’ installments have typically featured around fifteen minutes of announcements, while the initial Sims Summit lasted around thirty minutes. Perhaps for this anniversary, a longer session will be expected.
