Tim Sweeney Criticizes Big Tech for Alleged Republican Facade to Favor Trump
Epic CEO Tim Sweeney accuses technology leaders of pretending to support Republicans to gain influence with Donald Trump while undermining competition laws.
On January 10, 2025, Epic Games’ founder and CEO Tim Sweeney expressed critical views regarding tech executives’ approach towards US president-elect Donald Trump. He accused them of adopting a pro-Republican stance to secure favorable policies that compromise competitive practices.
Sweeney stated,> “After years of pretending to be Democrats, Big Tech leaders are now pretending to be Republicans, in hopes of currying favor with the new administration. Beware of the scummy monopoly campaign to vilify competition law as they rip off consumers and crush competitors.”
Sweeney’s remarks come as some tech giants, including Apple and Google, show support for Trump’s inauguration, with substantial financial contributions.
He contends that their facade disguises a broader strategy aimed at buttressing monopolistic behaviors in the industry. Currently, he is advocating for the right to distribute Epic Games on mobile platforms independently of Apple and Google’s payment systems.
Furthermore, Sweeney highlighted the changing dynamics within the tech landscape as Trump prepares for his new term, a shift that some speculate may lead to lax antitrust enforcement.
