Humane's Controversial AI Pin Set to Become Obsolete

Humane's wearable AI pin, launched with high hopes, will cease functionality at the end of February due to unsatisfactory market performance.

Back in November 2023, we wrote about an AI pin made by a company called Humane that owners would wear like a Star Trek badge. The device promised to provide AI-powered information, translate languages, take photos, play music, and work as a phone for those subscribed to T-Mobile. Unfortunately, at the end of February, these devices will stop functioning.

Humane (via Kotaku) has declared that sales of the AI pin will be halted, and after 12 PM PT on February 28, the devices will not connect to Humane’s servers. Accordingly, certain features, such as calling and messaging, will no longer work.

Some basic functionalities may still remain; however, it appears very limited, mainly indicating battery life. From the looks of it, without many useful features, the AI pin seems to be on a downward trend.

As for the device’s underwhelming performance, Humane stated they would be moving on to new projects. The AI pin’s release was just under a year ago, yet its failure in the market contradicts any claims of a successful product launch.

If you purchased an AI pin in the past 90 days, you are eligible for a refund, provided your request is submitted by February 27. However, for those who bought earlier, no compensation will be given.

The devices’ users should also download any data stored on them by February 28, after which all data will be deleted. Humane recommends recycling the device through e-waste programs, allowing users to contribute positively while also marking the end of an era for the AI pin.
