A Dedicated Player Decides to Remake Fallout: New Vegas in The Sims 2

A passionate fan takes matters into his own hands while waiting for an official remake.

When you think the PC gaming modding landscape couldn’t surprise you again, a devoted fan announces a Fallout: New Vegas remaster crafted within The Sims 2. This game was released six years before Obsidian’s cherished RPG, and is fundamentally different in purpose.

Despite the eccentricity of this idea, modder and superfan FalloutPropMaster explains his motivation in a Reddit thread detailing the project, dubbed The Sims 2: New Vegas. He expressed feeling “impatient while waiting for an official remaster of Fallout: New Vegas” that allows exploration of cut content from the original game.

While it might seem illogical to recreate these elements in a game void of combat or coherent language, the modder was inspired after seeing some New Vegas casinos constructed in The Sims 2, prompting him to replicate the entirety of Fallout New Vegas using Maxis’s build tools.

PropMaster, who has modded both Fallout 3 and New Vegas, stated he aims to use various third-party tools, including FOMM and Blender, to integrate elements from New Vegas into The Sims.

Since announcing this project, he has shared updates, including a planning layout for the New Vegas strip and ongoing development of Goodsprings, hinting at utilizing features from Maxis’s simulation to create a unique gaming experience.

While there’s a sense of whimsical absurdity in calling this a remaster, there’s also a broader perspective suggesting that games can be reinterpreted into entirely different frameworks. So why not envision classics like Fallout within the Sims universe?
