Epic Takes Action Against Cheater in Fortnite Championship
Epic Games sues a professional player for cheating in the Fortnite Championship Series, demands an apology, and donates the prize money to charity.
Epic has settled with a notorious cheater who illicitly won money at the 2023 Fortnite Championship Series. The player, known as Morgan ‘RepulseGod’ Bamford, was compelled to return their prize and create a public apology video posted on their YouTube channel. Unfortunately, Bamford chose to share a text video instead of apologizing live.
Bamford stated:
“Hey everyone, this is RepulseGod. I shared my Epic Games Account with another user, Forbes, to qualify for the 2024 Fortnite Championship Series grand finals. My actions violated Epic’s rules, and I was disqualified from the tournament.”
“Epic took legal action against me, and now I’m banned from participating in Fortnite tournaments forever. I must also compensate financially, which includes returning the prize money I received but did not deserve, which Epic will donate to charity.”
Bamford continued:
“Cheating in tournaments ruins the fun for players who earned their spots. I apologize to the Fortnite community for my actions and pledge to never cheat again.”
In the state of esports, this public shaming drew varied responses, with some players and analysts agreeing it’s a useful method to deter future cheaters. The official Fortnite Competitive X account shared:
“Cheating is never a winning strategy. Legal actions taken against players who share accounts unfairly led to lifetime bans from Fortnite tournaments and the forfeiture of illegitimate prize money donated to charity.”
