Todd Howard Discusses Bethesda's Reluctance Toward Game Remakes
In a recent interview, Todd Howard expressed his skepticism about remakes, sharing insights on Bethesda's approach to game development.
What direction Bethesda will take next has intrigued many in the gaming community, especially with Todd Howard’s insights into the studio’s approach to remakes.
Over the years, Bethesda has been a significant player in the gaming industry with iconic franchises like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. However, fans hoping for remakes may find themselves disappointed.
In a recent interview with Kinda Funny, Howard stated, “I’ve softened on the whole remaster thing. I’m sort of anti-remake. I respect the other ones out there, but I really think the age of a game is part of what it is and its personality and what it represented when it came out.”
While he supports remasters, Howard emphasizes that true remakes might not align with Bethesda’s vision. He stressed the importance of maintaining the original essence of games when making enhancements.
To add, Howard indicated that Fallout 3 and New Vegas are under consideration, though they are likely to receive remasters rather than total overhauls. As he explained, a full remake necessitates building a game from scratch, which might not be feasible given the studio’s current projects like The Elder Scrolls 6 and the anticipated second Starfield DLC.
The future of the remaster vs. remake debate is still unfolding, but Howard’s comments suggest that Bethesda’s next moves are poised to honor the legacy of its titles while offering fresh experiences.
