The MMO Ashes of Creation, originally a successful Kickstarter project, has recently become embroiled in controversy. Following the resignation of its creative director, Steven Sharif, allegations surfaced from investor Jason Caramanis, suggesting that Sharif diverted company funds for personal use while the studio struggled with significant debt.
Caramanis claims that Sharif’s actions contributed to estimated debts reaching as high as $140 million. Specifically, he alleges that funds intended for company operations were misappropriated for personal expenses, including a mansion and hefty loans to family members.
As this scenario unfolds, the narrative paints a picture of internal chaos at Intrepid Studios, sparking concerns over corporate governance amid claims of financial misconduct. Caramanis opines that Sharif and his partner exhibit traits of ‘pathological narcissism’.
“They are BOTH insane pathological narcissists,” remarked the investor on the matter.
This turmoil not only raises questions about the ethical management of the studio but also poses potential legal ramifications if substantiated claims lead to lawsuits from backers and stakeholders.
