Rockstar Shuts Down Non-Official GTA Mod Platforms Following New Mod Support

Rockstar Games has taken decisive action against unofficial modding platforms, closing multiple community-driven projects in the wake of launching its own modding marketplace.

Rockstar has recently made headlines by shuttering the alt:V Multiplayer platform, a popular non-official modding service for Grand Theft Auto V, citing its agreement that allows only FiveM for gta multiplayer modding. This development follows the launch of an official modding marketplace for GTA Online.

The alt:V team, in their announcement, expressed their sadness over this decision:

“This is not an easy message to write… We’ve been building alt:V… and it’s been years of solving hard problems and trying new ideas.”
“This is not an easy message to write, writes alt:V team member Vadzz on Discord. For the past nine years, we’ve been building alt:V—starting as a small side project and growing into a full-scale multiplayer platform…”

Starting March 2, alt:V will halt accepting new community servers, with all operations ceasing on July 6, effectively eliminating a beloved gaming service just as the modding community anticipated the arrival of GTA 6.
