Staff Cuts at 10:10 Games Linked to Funko Fusion's Market Struggles
Restructuring at 10:10 Games has led to significant staff layoffs, attributed to the disappointing launch of their flagship title.
10:10 Games, a studio based in Warrington, England, has laid off staff, according to sources quoted from Insider Gaming, due to its first release being a “complete commercial and critical failure”.
Funko Fusion attempted to leverage the success of Lego games; however, it was hampered by the lack of charm associated with Lego, using instead the unsettling appeal of Funko Pops. Despite featuring recognizable characters from franchises like Team Fortress 2, Mega Man, Back to the Future, The Walking Dead, and Scott Pilgrim, the game struggled in the market.
Having ended up with an OpenCritic rating of 53, it holds a Mixed rating on Steam with 68% positive user feedback.
Sources for Insider Gaming mentioned that the poor performance of Funko Fusion thwarted efforts to secure funding for future projects, leading to layoffs since there “isn’t enough work to give the whole team”. Some employees learned about their job loss while on vacation, as they were encouraged to use their vacation days, yet were still expected to attend consultation meetings across different time zones.
“Management seemed very keen to wrap up the process quickly,” a source told Insider Gaming, “and despite saying that they were fully open to suggestions and feedback, none of it has been taken on board.”
