Ubisoft Reportedly Cancels Co-Op Multiplayer for Assassin's Creed
The anticipated multiplayer version of the Assassin's Creed franchise has been put on hold by Ubisoft, disappointing fans of the series.
A recent report indicates that the highly anticipated multiplayer game for the Assassin’s Creed franchise has been canceled. Despite hopes for new multiplayer entries in the series, this news is likely disheartening for fans eager for a fresh AC experience with multiplayer features.
Multiplayer was first introduced in the Assassin’s Creed series with Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood in 2010, with succeeding titles including Revelations, Black Flag, and Unity offering similar elements. However, the franchise hasn’t featured a multiplayer mode in over ten years, and optimism for a return has now diminished.
Assassin’s Creed League Project Ceased
The project titled Assassin’s Creed League, designed to reintroduce multiplayer for the latest title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has been scrapped. This news, initially reported by the French site Origami, attributed confirmation to multiple Ubisoft employees. Originally intended as additional content for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it was projected to provide a new foundation for future Assassin’s Creed titles.
Ultimately, the developer decided the project was not progressing as expected, leading to its halt. While efforts to repurpose aspects of the League into a standalone title had been discussed, recent reports indicate those plans have also been nullified, catching Ubisoft Annecy leads off guard as they learned about the cancellation merely a week before.
