Eidos Montreal Experiences Further Layoffs as Internal Projects Face Cancellation

Eidos Montreal has undergone another wave of job cuts, with internal projects reportedly shelved as the studio shifts its focus.

Eidos Montreal has disposed of numerous employees for the second time this year, as reported by many former staff on LinkedIn.

Sources revealed that the layoffs, affecting at least a dozen roles, were announced by presentation director Timothé Lapetite, who noted in a LinkedIn post: “Eidos-Montréal got served with one of those Mondays. We had to part ways with some incredible talent due to gestures at everything.”

Furthermore, it was indicated that most of the studio’s projects have been aborted, with a shift towards collaborative work on projects like Grounded 2, led by Obsidian, and the reboot of Fable, overseen by Playground Games. Currently, neither Eidos nor its parent company Embracer Group have confirmed these layoffs or responded to inquiries for comments.

This marks the studio’s second round of layoffs in 2025, following a reduction of approximately 75 jobs in March. Previous cuts included 97 employees and the cancellation of an unannounced Deus Ex game in early 2024.

The layoffs reflect ongoing challenges faced by Embracer, which suffered major setbacks in 2023 after the collapse of a $2 billion financing deal leading to multiple studio closures and nearly 1,400 job losses as of February 2024.

Embracer hinted at the end of its restructuring in March 2024 after selling Gearbox, but layoffs and closures have continued extensively. In May of this year, Embracer announced another restructuring round, and even Crystal Dynamics, a partner studio of Eidos, has undergone three layoff rounds in 2025.
