Supermassive Games’ latest horror adventure is set to debut later this year, continuing the legacy of the Dark Pictures series.
The upcoming game, Directive 8020, introduces thrilling elements reminiscent of John Carpenter’s The Thing but set in the vastness of space. Players will explore a gripping narrative aboard the Cassiopeia, where a crew of astronauts faces an extraordinary threat when a mysterious organism infiltrates their ranks, posing a deadly challenge to their mission to save humanity.
“Do you think Williams knows more about this substance than he’s letting on?”
Although insights into gameplay remain scarce, the Directive 8020 Steam page hints at real-time alien threats. It’s suggested that players will employ “improvised weapons, lightning reflexes, and stealth” to navigate through intricate encounters. Will Doyle, the Creative Director, previously indicated that they are dedicated to enhancing the horror experience as they evolve their storytelling and gaming mechanics.
This release marks a pivotal moment for the Dark Pictures anthology, aiming to recapture the captivating essence that initially drew players into Until Dawn. Following a reshaping phase post-layoffs, Supermassive Games appears motivated to explore broader narratives while continuing work on other critical titles.
